How this is calculated

In Austria the next statutory holiday does not depend on the province: all 13 holidays under section 7 of the Rest Periods Act apply everywhere. Only the patron saint's day differs, and it closes schools but is not a statutory holiday; you can switch it on in the calculator. Counting from 28 October 2026, the next holiday is All Saints' Day on 1 November 2026, a Sunday, followed by Immaculate Conception on 8 December 2026. The countdown above runs on your device clock and counts to midnight Austrian time on the holiday, Central European Time in winter and summer time in summer. If you are abroad you see the same time remaining, converted to your own time zone. When a holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday the list says so: Austria does not move it. For leave planning the holidays on a Tuesday or Thursday matter most, because the day in between becomes a bridge day. The page is recomputed each time it is published; the countdown itself always uses today's date in your browser.

The list follows section 7(2) of the Rest Periods Act and the identical 1957 Public Holiday Rest Act. It covers a full year, since each holiday comes round once a year. Patron saints' days are not included; they are on provincial holidays.

From the next holiday to a long weekend

If the next holiday falls on a Tuesday or Thursday, look at the day in between: one leave day on the Monday or Friday gives four days off. The bridge-day planner finds these days for the whole year, and bridge days 2026 shows what is left before New Year.

Common questions

Which public holiday is next?

The countdown above shows it using today's date on your device. As of 28 October 2026 it is All Saints' Day on 1 November 2026, followed by Immaculate Conception on 8 December 2026. The table below lists the holidays of a full year ahead with their weekdays.

Is the next holiday the same in every province?

Yes, for statutory holidays. The 13 days of the Rest Periods Act apply across Austria. If you add the patron saint's day in the calculator, your province's own day appears too, such as 15 November in Vienna and Lower Austria.

What time does the countdown run to?

To midnight at the start of the holiday, in Austrian legal time. Under the Time Reckoning Act that is Central European Time, with summer time in summer. Your device works out the time left on its own; nothing is sent.

Are shops open on the next public holiday?

As a rule, no: holiday rest applies. Exceptions include shops in railway stations and airports (section 18 of the Rest Periods Act), and 8 December when it falls on a weekday, when shops may open under section 13a of the Rest Periods Act.
