In Upper Austria 4 May is a day without school: the feast of St Florian, patron saint of the province and of firefighters. Section 2 of the Upper Austria School Hours Act 1976 names it expressly; it is not a holiday under the Rest Periods Act. In 2027 St Florian's Day falls on a Tuesday, two days before Ascension Day. That makes the first week of May 2027 unusually rich in Upper Austria: Labour Day on the Saturday, the Monday as a bridge day before St Florian, the Wednesday between St Florian and Ascension Day, and the Friday after. If you get St Florian's Day off, three leave days keep you at home from 1 to 9 May. Ten leave days with the patron saint off give 31 days off in 2027, without it 29. Upper Austria shares the latest semester break with Styria, from the third Monday in February, 15 February 2027 in 2027. School starts on the second Monday in September and the summer holidays on 10 July 2027 in 2027.

St Florian's Day in Upper Austria
Section 2(4) of the Upper Austria School Hours Act 1976 lists 4 May among the days without school, with Sundays, holidays and All Souls' Day. In 2028 St Florian's Day falls on a Thursday, three weeks before Ascension Day; the Friday after then becomes a bridge day for schools and for employees who get the patron saint's day off.
